Journalistic filmmaker (Documentary YouTube content)

We're looking for a brilliant mind with a warm soul that can help us build something new.

Full-time · Barcelona

About Us

We're Camping, a small-but-mighty brand storytelling & video agency based in Barcelona, helping B2B tech companies transform from 'boring' to heartfelt through brand & video storytelling.

Now, we're doing something different. We're launching an in-house YouTube channel that will publish short documentaries on culture, business, tech, and work—the kinds of stories people at startups, scaleups, and modern companies actually want to watch. Think bold, entertaining, and fun—with a healthy dose of gallows humor.

We’re looking for a talented filmmaker who can help us shoot and edit this content. This role would also be partially involved with some client filmmaking.

Have we mentioned we have a 4-day workweek?

The Role

This is not really a client services role. There might be support needed, but this really is a rare opportunity to build a documentary channel from scratch with us.

We're looking for an experienced Journalistic filmmaker to help us turn ambitious ideas into high-quality films. You'll work closely with individual story owners across the Camping team—helping them take their rough structures and scripts and transform them into visually compelling, publish-ready documentaries.

But you won't just be executing other people's visions. You'll also pitch and create your own stories, and you'll play a key role in defining the aesthetic and overall tone of the channel itself alongside our editorial lead.

This is full-time role (which at Camping means 4 days a week). It's a rare opportunity to get fully stuck into creative work with a high degree of freedom and influence over how it turns out.

Core Responsibilities

Documentary Production & Storytelling

  • Collaborate with story owners to bring their ideas to life—taking scripts and working structures (prepared in Descript) and turning them into finished films

  • Shoot high-quality footage, including interviews (both in-person and remote), B-roll, narration, and creative visuals that elevate the story

  • Edit documentaries from start to finish, ensuring they're visually compelling, well-paced, and publish-ready for YouTube

  • Pitch, develop, and produce your own documentary stories that fit the channel's mission and tone

  • Bring strong editorial instincts to the table—you understand what makes a story compelling and can help shape narratives that resonate

Creative Leadership & Channel Development

  • Help define the visual aesthetic and overall vibe of the channel in collaboration with the editorial/project lead

  • Participate in pitch meetings and contribute thoughtfully to decisions about which stories get made

  • Stay on top of trends in YouTube documentary content, tech culture, and modern work—and bring that awareness into your work

  • Experiment, iterate, and help us figure out what works as we build this thing together

Collaboration & Quality

  • Give and receive feedback in a mature, thoughtful way—ego has no place here

  • Work adaptively across different story formats and visual styles as the channel evolves

  • Maintain a high bar for visual detail and production quality across all content

  • Help us face inevitable obstacles as a collective owner, not a hired gun

Client work support

  • Part of your time will be dedicated to supporting some of our client initiatives, helping shoot, shape and oversee content for them.

What We're Looking For

Required Experience & Skills

  • 3-5 years of proven experience producing documentaries or long-form video content from concept to completion

  • A strong existing portfolio of published documentary work that demonstrates your storytelling ability and visual eye. Ideally you’ve worked on Youtube content before.

  • Expert-level proficiency in filming and video editing (software like Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, After Effects, etc.)

  • A very sharp eye for visual detail—you can take rough ideas for shots and visuals and elevate them to stand-out quality aesthetically

  • Strong editorial and storytelling instincts—you understand narrative structure, pacing, and what makes a story engaging

  • Native or Proficient level in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory. Decent Spanish is also a big plus.

  • Genuine interest in tech, culture, and modern work—you should be excited about the topics we're covering, not just the craft

  • Passion for Youtube content—we must work with somebody who lives and breathes the medium we’ll be creating for.

The Perfect Fit Will Also Have

  • Experience creating content specifically for a journalisitc YouTube or other digital-first platforms, with an understanding of what works in that ecosystem

  • Motion graphics and After Effects skills (huge plus)

  • Color grading and sound design experience (a bit of DIY filmmaker)

  • Journalism training or background (not required, but valuable)

  • A sense of humour and an appreciation for deadpan, sarcastic storytelling (we actually do care about that a lot)

Your Mindset

  • You're collaborative and open—you thrive working with others and value diverse perspectives

  • You're adaptable and ready to experiment as we figure out what this channel should be

  • You're comfortable giving and receiving feedback without taking it personally

  • You're excited by creative freedom, but also understand that great work requires structure and discipline

  • You care deeply about the details and won't settle for "good enough"

  • You're not a lone wolf or a pretentious auteur—you want to build something together

  • You thrive in fast-paced environments, demonstrating autonomy and flexibility to lead new projects. This really is a new role for a new project.

Location

This position is based in Barcelona, Spain. We won't be taking candidates that aren't able to live in Barcelona. You must have the right to work in Spain.

Working Model

  • As of 2025, we have been trialing a 4-day workweek with most Fridays off. That means we organis our work to be able to take most Fridays off.

  • Most of us work remotely and gather at our Barcelona office 2 days a week to collaborate and connect

  • For this role, you will need to be present more often, especially during the initial phase as we build the channel

  • Working hours are flexible— we trust you to manage your schedule around project needs and team commitments

Diversity & Inclusion

At Camping, we believe that diverse teams drive creativity, innovation, and success. We are committed to building an inclusive culture where all individuals, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, age, religion, or background, feel valued, heard, and empowered to thrive. We celebrate diverse perspectives and actively work to ensure equal opportunity for all applicants and team members.

What We Offer

  • Immediate incorporation (ideally within the next 1-2 months)

  • €40,000 - €45,000 gross yearly salary

  • 4-day workweek with Fridays off (on trial), flexible working hours, and a hybrid model with at least two days per week in our office in the Poblenou area

  • The chance to build and shape a documentary channel from the ground up

  • High degree of creative freedom and influence over the final output

  • Opportunity to work on stories about culture, tech, and work that actually matter

  • Balanced work culture with in-person team events

How to Apply

Please submit your CV along with a portfolio of your documentary work. We're particularly interested in seeing examples that demonstrate your visual storytelling ability and editorial instincts.
